Thailand beat arch-rivals Malaysia 2-0 in the men’s team final in sepak takraw at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan today, winning the gold medal in the event for a seventh time.
Thailand won 15-9, 15-8 to avenge its 2-0 defeat by Malaysia in the men’s team-series final on September 25.
The Thai team, comprising Thanapon Sapyen, Kritsanapong Nontakot and Wuttinan Kamsanoe, controlled the match and secured the first set 15-9 before completing the victory with a 15-8 win in the second.
The gold marks Thailand’s seventh Asian Games title in the men’s team event.
Thailand will have another chance to add to its sepak takraw gold tally in the women’s four-person event, with the group stage beginning tomorrow and the final scheduled for October 3.
