The board of Thai Airways International (THAI), led by Finance Permanent Secretary Lavaron Sangsnit, decided today to remove the airline’s CEO Chai Eamsiri from the post with immediate effect.

The board held a special meeting to consider THAI’s passenger service at Suvarnabhumi international airport after the airline encountered labour shortages, affecting ground service operations, causing a backlog of baggage and extreme flight delays.

The board said that it had monitored the situation and taken measures to prevent such incident from recurring.

An informed source in THAI said the board resolved to dismiss Chai Eamsiri, effective immediately, and appointed Samrit Samniang, a director, as acting CEO.

THAI has come under widespread and heavy criticism for its poor handling of ground operations at Suvarnabhumi airport, causing a massive backlog in baggage handling, flight delays and the cancellations of numerous flights during heavy flooding in Bangkok.
