Over one million households affected by flooding have sought compensation from the government, Sirithorn Somsuwan, public relations director of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said yesterday.
The households have registered through the Thang Rath application to seek compensation. Data as of 7am today shows that 1,056,361 households have applied for compensation. They include 458,987 households in Bangkok, 149,194 in Samut Prakan, 130,010 in Pathum Thani, 42,531 in Chachoengsao and 36,016 in Rayong.
According to a Cabinet resolution, each household that has been flooded for no more than seven days and has sustained damage will receive 9,000 baht, while each household that has been surrounded by floodwater for more than seven days will receive 5,000 baht.
Those who want to register for compensation are advised to check with their respective district office or local administrative organisation to determine whether their homes are located inside or outside designated disaster zones before completing the registration form, in order to prevent mistakes.
The system will not confirm a registration if there is an error, she said.
