Opposition Fair party MP Kannavee Suebsang insisted today that the three letters he presented to the media last week, to support his claim that the Uyghurs repatriated last week did not want to return to China, are genuine and not fabricated, as claimed by the Corrections Department.
Kannavee said he is more than ready to undertake any process to prove that the letters are genuine.
He explained that the letters were not from any Uyghurs detained in Klong Prem Central Prison, but from those held at the Suan Plu Immigration Detention Centre.
Since one of the letters bore an official stamp of the Klong Prem Central Prison, the prison conducted the investigation into their authenticity. The department concluded that the letters were fabricated.
Last week, Kannavee presented the three letters, in which the writers state that they did not want to be deported to China because they feared persecution, to counter the government's claims that the 40 Uyghurs repatriated last week had agreed to return to China.
One letter, addressed to Paetongtarn, pleaded for them to be sent to a safe country and to be reunited with their families.
It also referenced the return to Thailand of Paetongtarn’s father, Thaksin Shinawatra, and his reunion with his family, writing, “As God helped Paetongtarn’s family reunite, please help poor people like us reunite with ours.”
