Ten water cannons have been put on standby, ready to be sent to Sa Kaeo province to deal with Cambodian protesters near Ban Nong Ya Kaew village in Sa Kaeo's Khok Sung district.
The village has become a new flashpoint between Thai border troops and Cambodian civilians, backed by government officials, who have been protesting over the past few days against the installation of barbed wire fencing by Thai troops.
Four crowd control officers were injured by missiles and slingshots hurled by the protesters during a confrontation yesterday.
Pol Maj Gen Chaikrit Pho-ah, the crow control divisional commander, said that the water cannons will be deployed at the order of the national police chief.
Each truck can carry 12,000 litres of water and can spray it over a distance of 65 metres. The trucks are also equipped with long-range acoustic devices.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Cambodian officials have distributed face masks to protesters, to protect them against tear gas used by the Thai side.
About 50 Cambodian protesters, including several monks, regrouped in front of the barbed wire fence this evening, after being dispersed yesterday when Thai troops used tear gas and rubber bullets against them.
