Two injured soldiers were returned to Cambodia today, through Chong Chom border checkpoint in Surin province.
The Second Army Region said that the two soldiers were injured during the fierce fighting last week at the border in Surin. One of them sustained a broken arm and the other is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. They were provided with proper medical treatment before they were sent home.
The Second Army Region said that the two soldiers were treated in accordance with humanitarian principles.
Eighteen others captured Cambodian soldiers are still in custody, pending trials on charges of illegal entry.
Meanwhile, the Phanom Dongrak district chief officer, Ek-anan Sri-in, has advised farmers not to venture onto farmland, due to the presence of a number of unexploded artillery shells.
He disclosed that more than 140 shells and rockets were fired into the district by Cambodian forces during last week’s fierce fighting. So far, six live shells have been found.
He advised farmers to stay clear of fresh holes on their land and to assume that they were caused by unexploded shells, which could be embedded 3 or 4 metres deep.
Defence volunteers have been deployed around the clock at checkpoints on the approaches to villages close to the border, to prevent strangers from entering.
It is reported that a number of unidentified drones, thought to be Cambodian spy drones, have been sighted in the sky over Prasat and Phanom Dongrak districts of Surin and Ban Kruat district of Buri Ram in recent days.
