Thailand’s Second Army Region has decided to postpone indefinitely the Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting with its Cambodian counterpart, scheduled to take place today through Saturday at the Chong Chom border pass in Karb Choeng district of the northeastern province of Surin.
The Operations Centre of the Second Army Region announced that the RBC meeting has been put on indefinite hold because the Cambodian the Fourth Regional Army has failed to come up with an action plan on the reduction of troops along the shared border or to specify areas for demining operations, as stated in the General Border Committee (GBC) agreement.
The Operations Centre said that, last week, two RBC meetings were held and the two armies exchanged documents four times, yet the Cambodian side could not present a clear action plan.
It is, therefore, necessary for the Second Army Region to postpone the RBC meeting to protect the credibility of the GBC agreement, to resist time-buying tactics and any subsequent distortion of facts, said the Operations Centre.
It also said that the Second Army Region will take all measures within the framework of international cooperation to restore peace and order and to protect the sovereignty of the country.
