Cambodian forces continue their artillery attacks on Thai communities in the border province of Surin today, despite having agreed to a ceasefire with Thailand, at the request of the US president, Thai Army spokesman Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree said today.
Artillery shells landed on homes in Ban Tasoh village in Prasat district, sparking fires. Firefighters were dispatched but, by the time the fires were out, the houses had been completely destroyed.
No injuries were reported, as residents had already been evacuated to shelters.
Winthai told reporters that, although Cambodia had reportedly endorsed President Trump’s intervention and agreed, in principle, to a ceasefire, its forces continued their bombardment. Firing began at around 4.30am, he said.
The artillery reportedly struck non-military targets, including homes and medical facilities.
According to Winthai, at approximately 7.50am, Cambodian forces launched BM-21 rockets into empty residential areas, causing structural damage.
