Thai-American sailor Sophia Montgomery delivered a commanding performance on Friday to win the gold medal in the women’s dinghy (ILCA 6) event at the 20th Asian Games.
The victory gave Thailand its 13th gold medal of the Games and punched the 23-year-old’s ticket to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Sophia dominated the competition across the multi-race series, showcasing composure and tactical precision to top the leaderboard in the final fleet standings.
By securing the Asian Games title, the former Paris 2024 Olympian met her primary target of earning a qualification quota place for the Kingdom at the LA 2028 Games, where she will compete in familiar waters.
Sophia’s triumph capped a memorable day for the Thai national squad in Japan, further solidifying the nation's strong presence in water sports.
