Sunday’s meeting in Kuala Lumpur between Malaysia’s prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim, and former Thai prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, focused on the ongoing situation in Myanmar, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Thaksin’s youngest daughter, told reporters yesterday.
“That’s what Thaksin has briefed me on,” Paetongtarn said.
Anwar, this year’s ASEAN chairman, appointed Thaksin to chair his advisory team, which also includes Singapore’s former foreign minister George Yeo.
The Thai prime minister said every party concerned wants to see peace restored in Myanmar, so the meeting is sure to be of benefit to all ASEAN countries.
They also discussed the PM2.5 airborne pollution problem and possible solutions, including the joint use of technologies, according to Paetongtarn.
