Ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra arrived this morning to attend a Supreme Court ruling concerning his controversial six-month stay at the Police General Hospital.
Accompanying him were his daughters — ousted PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra and her husband.
Thaksin, 76, returned to Thailand in August 2023 after years of self-imposed exile and was immediately ordered to serve an eight-year prison sentence for corruption and abuse of power, which was later reduced to one year by royal commutation.
Within hours of entering prison, however, he was transferred to the Police General Hospital, where he remained on the VIP 14th floor from mid-August 2023 until February 2024, citing severe health issues. He never spent a single day in prison.
