People’s party MP Rangsiman Rome has expressed concern today that the attempt by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to probe alleged voting collusion in the Senate election last June may end up being a match fixing exercise for political expediency.
The outspoken opposition MP was commenting on a report that the DSI’s special case panel is to invite representatives of the Election Commission (EC) to explain the allegations and what it has done about them so far, instead of simply agreeing to approve a special case investigation by the DSI.
Rangsiman claimed that he had heard a rumour that some powerful figures had been lobbying the special case panel, adding that he doubts whether such action could, however, be classified as interference in the judicial process.
He appealed to the powerful figures, whoever they are, to stop interfering in this matter and to allow it to proceed in accordance with the law, to clear the air over the Senate election.
As far as the DSI is concerned, regarding the charges of criminal association against the Senate, Rangsiman said that, if the DSI has sufficient evidence to support the charge, it should proceed with the case.
He also criticised the EC for its failure to act, after complaints were filed by failed senatorial candidates, leaving them to look to the DSI for help.
