A group of protesters filed a petition today, through the government’s complaint centre, calling on the prime minister to separate her father-daughter relationship from the running of the country.
In their statement they claim that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s evasion of his prison sentence has severely undermined the country’s justice system and demonstrated his influence over it.
The administration has ignored the issue, prompting the Medical Council and the National Anti-Corruption Commission to step in on the public’s behalf.
“Our group therefore calls on Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to address the matter. We are fully aware that she is Thaksin’s daughter but, as the leader of the country, she should prioritise the national interest over family ties,” the statement read.
The group was led by prominent political activists, including Jatuporn Prompan, Dr Warong Dechgitvigrom, Jade Donavanik, and Dr Tul Sittisomwong
Some protesters held placards also demanding that the government scrap its entertainment complex plan, which includes casinos, and vowed to return to Government House this Saturday.
