Former Senator Kittisak Rattanawaraha was sentenced to nine months in prison yesterday by the Appeals Court, for his role in leading a group of people to lay siege to Bang Klan Temple in Phichit province to force the expulsion of the acting abbot seven years ago.
On July 24th last year, Kittisak was sentenced to six months and fined 16,500 baht by Phichit provincial court, after he was convicted of leading protesters to lay siege to the temple, demanding the ouster of the acting abbot.
The term of imprisonment was, however, suspended for two years and he was placed on probation for one year.
Kittisak appealed the lower court’s verdict.
The Appeals Court’s verdict and sentence of nine months was read by the Phichit Provincial Court yesterday.
Kittisak applied for a bail, pending an appeal to the Supreme Court.
