Hosting the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings will significantly boost international confidence in Thailand and showcase the country’s economic trajectory on the global stage, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said.
Nearly 400 key leaders and dignitaries, primarily finance ministers and central bank governors, are expected to attend the international gathering.
Sihasak emphasised that hosting such a major international forum is an ongoing process rather than a one-off event, comparing it to the United Nations framework where Thailand regularly engages on global affairs and articulates its national strategic direction.
Addressing concerns over recent localised flooding that could potentially impact summit proceedings or investor confidence, Sihasak acknowledged the need for rigorous operational readiness. However, he noted that long-term economic fundamentals remain the primary consideration for foreign investors.
National Police Chief Pol Gen Samran Nualma confirmed that security forces are fully prepared to ensure the safety of all attending leaders and delegates. Intelligence monitoring remains active, with authorities reporting no cause for security concern ahead of the event.
