The Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) has set up a committee to investigate an allegation that a prosecutor and his wife were connected to the troubled iCon Group e-commerce company as membership recruitment agents.
OAG Spokesman Sakkasem Neesaiyok said today that the committee has 30 days, plus 60 days extension if required, to complete the probe.
Regarding disciplinary action, he said that, if the prosecutor in question were to be found to have committed a minor offence, a warning would be issued by the attorney-general.
The punishments would be harsher, such as salary cuts or demotion, for non-serious disciplinary violations and dismissal from the service is for a gross disciplinary violation.
While the investigation is under way, the implicated prosecutor can perform his duties as normal, said Sakkasem.
Meanwhile, Lertsak Pattanachaikul, a Pheu Thai MP and chair of the House committee dealing with money laundering and illegal narcotics, denied an allegation that some of the party’s MPs have attempted to blackmail the iCon Group.
He said that the committee will continue its probe into the business of iCon Group and related issues.
