Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul departed for Singapore this morning for a one-day official visit, aimed at strengthening ties and cooperation with the island state in various areas.
Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat says that the prime minister’s visit is at the invitation of his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong and marks the 60th anniversary of Singaporean–Thai diplomatic relations, while serving as a return visit following Wong’s trip to Thailand in November 2024.
After attending official reception ceremonies at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Anutin and Wong are scheduled to hold bilateral talks, during which a five-year rice trade agreement between the two largest economies in ASEAN is expected to be signed.
Under the agreement, Singapore will import 100,000 tons of Thai rice over the period, said Siripong.
Bilateral cooperation in food and energy security, green and digital economy development, anti-online scam measures, cross-border crime prevention and public health, with an emphasis on elderly care, will also be on the agenda, the spokesman said.
The Thai premier is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam in the afternoon, followed by an attendance at the SET Government Roadshow 2025, where he will deliver a keynote speech and meet with leading regional investors.
Before returning home in the evening, the prime minister will meet Thai workers and students in Singapore, the spokesman added.
