Families of the victims of the fatal school coach fire have sought consultations with the psychologist team at the Police General Hospital.
The hospital’s Surgeon General, Pol Lt Gen Dr. Thaweesilp Vejvitarn, said that ten of the families have contacted the hospital’s psychologists so far, seeking advice on their grief over the deaths of their beloved family members.
The doctor was speaking a day after 20 schoolchildren and three teachers from a school in Uthai Thani’s Lan Sak district perished when an inferno engulfed the coach in which they were travelling. They were on a trip to Nonthaburi province when the deadly accident occurred.
Forensic investigators are matching the victims’ DNA with samples provided by their families, as most of the bodies are unrecognisable.
Assistant Police Commissioner General Kornchai Klaiklueng said that the DNA comparison for the 23 victims is expected to be completed today, followed by the remains being returned to their home towns.
Outside the forensic rooms the families of the victims are waiting their turn to collect their deceased loved ones.
At about 3 pm, all of the victims except one were identified. Convoys bringing 22 bodies back to Uthai Thani began leaving the hospital. Uniformed police officers, doctors and nurses were seen lining up to bid farewell to the young victims.
