The deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police has warned citizens not to decorate their vehicles with reindeer antlers or festive Christmas lights, as it violates the law and the drivers could be fined up to 2,000 Baht on conviction.
Police Major General Siriwat Deepo stated that some people have decorated their vehicles in ways that could cause accidents or pose a danger to other road users.
So, the police are advising the public not to attach antlers or fairy lights to their vehicles, either of which could become detached while the vehicle is in motion.
Furthermore, fairy lights could confuse other road users and make it difficult for them to see the vehicle’s turn and brake signals.
If these actions lead to an accident resulting in injury or death, the driver could face serious charges.
If citizens see drivers who have decorated their vehicles in dangerous ways, they can take photos as evidence and report them by calling 191 for the police, 1197 for traffic police or 1193 for highway police, available 24 hours a day.
