A 67-year-old woman was mauled to death by her cousin's pit bull terrier in Pathum Thani’s Sam Khok district on Monday.
Police found the body of Daeng Thammatanta with serious bite wounds inflicted by the dog, named “Poikai”, particularly on her right limbs, which were almost severed in the attack.
The victim’s son, Thawee Markpong, 41, said that his mother was riding her bicycle to buy groceries when the dog attacked her.
When he was alerted to the attack, by a cousin, he and his older brother rushed to the scene and took their mother for treatment. Unfortunately, she did not survive due to an excessive loss of blood.
Meanwhile, Kietkanok Tanlae, 48, the dog's owner and Thawee’s aunt, stated that the 2-year-old dog, had been placed in her care by her daughter.
The dog had shown no signs of aggression until recently, when it began attacking others, all of whom were their relatives living nearby.
Kietkanok mentioned that the dog was usually kept in an enclosure and had apparently jumped over the door to attack Daeng.
The victim before Daeng was also a relative, who lived near Kietkanok’s house, and that she is still receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
Kietkanok said she wants to give the dog away, because she can no longer take care of it.
