The Medical Council and the Department of Health Services jointly filed a complaint with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) today, accusing an executive of the iCon Group e-commerce company of falsely claiming to be a medical doctor on social media.
Thanakrit Chitarirat, an advisor to the public health minister, told the media that the executive in question, Thananon Hirunchaiwan, graduated with a degree in Medical Technology, not in Medical Science, as he had claimed on social media.
He also said that public health officials will inspect Thananon’s clinic and health spa in the Ram Inthra and Pratunam areas of Bangkok tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Air Chief Marshal Dr. Ittaporn Kanacharoen, secretary-general of the Medical Council, said that Thananont’s license to perform medical technological services has already expired, adding that officials will check whether it has been renewed.
A group of lawyers, led by Sittra Biabungkerd, meanwhile, led several investors to file complaints with the Consumer Protection Division at the CIB, demanding that the police file charges of money laundering and violations of the law on lending and borrowing against top executives of the iCon Group.
Sittra named the company’s top executives as CEO Waratphol Waratvorakul, Kan Kantathavorn, Yuranunt Pamornmontri, Peechaya Wattanamontree, Thananon Hirunchaiwan and another, only identified as “Boss Peter”.
He also claimed that there are eyewitnesses who are ready to testify that the company did not engage in the sale of its products online, but in recruiting more people to invest in the company, adding that only the major investors were given the privilege of meeting the CEO and other celebrity “bosses”.
Sittra alleged that the company was, in fact, engaged in running a Ponzi scheme and not a direct marketing business, as registered with the Consumer Protection Office.
