“Look Thoong” singer Chayada Praohom was diagnosed as suffering from transverse myelitis and died of blood infection while she was an in-patient at the Udon Thai provincial hospital.
Dr Somchaichote Piyawatwela told a news conference today that Chayada was admitted for treatment in October, after she had complained of numbness in her legs and arms.
Doctors diagnosed transverse myelitis (an inflammation of both sides of a section of the spinal cord) and administered medication until she recovered and was discharged from the hospital.
Before that, she experienced neck and shoulder tension after a massage at a traditional massage parlour. She returned to the same parlour for another massage and, two weeks later, she experienced more pain and could barely sleep.
In mid-November, she was rushed to the hospital’s ICU after experiencing spasms and eventually died of septicaemia (a blood infection).
Dr Somchaichote said that it cannot be confirmed, at this stage, whether her death was partially caused by her neck massage, as claimed by her relatives, adding that further investigation is needed.
Health officials report that the massage parlour is properly license and all the seven masseuses have work permits.
