The opposition People’s party will take the opportunity, when Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul delivers his government’s policy statement to parliament, to debate the qualifications of some of his ministers.
Leader of the People’s party, Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, said today that the party has discovered that some of the ministers are under investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and will question them about their suitability to sit on the Cabinet, as well debating the government’s policies.
He said that there is no need for his party to coordinate with the Pheu Thai party on how they should manage the debate, to avoid repetition, noting that both parties can work independently to perform their duties in parliament.
He noted, however, that the two parties may discuss the allocation of the time for the debate, without addressing the content, adding that, as long as the Pheu Thai party does their part in keeping a check on the government, there would be little chance for the Bhumjaithai party, the core party in the governing coalition, to go back on the agreement signed with the People’s party prior to the election of the new prime minister.
The new Cabinet is scheduled to have an audience with HM the King for an oath-taking ceremony on Thursday, after which the government will contact House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Martha to arrange the date for the prime minister to deliver the obligatory policy statement to parliament, but no later than October 1st.
