The Mirror Foundation, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to tracing missing people, called on the government today for help in locating and rescuing 25 missing Thai citizens, who are believed to have been lured to Cambodia and Myanmar and forced to work for scam call centres.
Ekaluck Loomchomkhae, head of the foundation’s Missing People Information Centre, said today that they had received complaints, asking them to locate 119 loved ones who have gone missing and who are believed to have been trafficked to Cambodia and Myanmar.
He claimed that the foundation had managed to rescue 94 of them, with the help of authorities, but 25 others remain unaccounted for.
Sombat Boon-ngarmanong, director of the foundation, urged the government to take drastic action to deal with the transnational scam gangs based in neighboring countries.
The foundation received a complaint today from a lady called Nutcharin, seeking help to find her 16-year-old daughter, who went missing, with her boyfriend, after they applied for jobs in Sa Kaeo province in June.
On July 7th, however, she said she received a phone call from her daughter, telling her that she was lured to a job in Cambodia and was being forced to work 18 hours a day.
She said she lodged a complaint with police in Nonthaburi, but there has been no progress in the case.
