Riverside residents in Nonthaburi are being advised to move their belongings to higher ground and to reinforce the sandbag floodwalls surrounding their houses and communities, in preparation for flooding.
The province, which is adjacent to Bangkok, could possibly experience flooding starting today due to the rising water levels in the Chao Phraya River.
The volume of water flowing through the measurement station at Bang Sai district of Ayutthaya was estimated at 2,044m3/s yesterday, after the Royal Irrigation Department increased the discharge of water through the Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat to 2,400m3/s, to reduce the pressure on the dam’s structure.
The increased discharge of water coincides with high tides in October, particularly between 13 and 23.
This will contribute to further a rise of the level of water in the Chao Phraya River by up to 70cm, according to an urgent announcement issued by Nonthaburi’s provincial governor.
