The death toll in the accident at the construction site of the Bang Khun Thian-Ban Phaeo elevated motorway in Samut Sakhon province has increased to six, two Thais and four Myanmar migrant workers.
The nine who were injured are currently being treated at a hospital in Samut Sakhon.
f the six victims, it is reported that rescue teams have still been unable to retrieve one of them, as the body was still trapped in the debris. The teams are awaiting the removal of the collapsed steel frames.
The deputy provincial governor said the families of the deceased will each receive 860,000 baht in compensation.
He also said that three cranes arrived on trucks at the construction site at about 3pm today, to start removing the steel frames and a concrete beam from the Rama II Road, which is likely to take some time as officials must consider public safety.
The out-bound Rama II Road, heading towards Pak Thor in Ratchaburi, and the in-bound road from Pak Thor have been closed near the site of the accident, with motorists switching to another road to get to Nakhon Pathom province.
According to the Highways Department, there were 2,242 accidents on Rama II Road between 2018 and January this year, resulting in 132 deaths and 1,305 people being injured.
