Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will tomorrow begin a weeklong official foreign trip to Japan, the United Kingdom and the US, including participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York.
Anutin will first travel to Japan, where he is scheduled to meet and encourage Thai athletes competing in the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, which begin tomorrow.
He will also chair a meeting of ‘Team Thailand’, a collaborative, multi-agency approach to achieving specific national, economic or international goals, to discuss cooperation and policies benefiting Thailand.
In New York, Anutin is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly’s general debate on September 24 and meet leaders and senior representatives from various countries, as well as UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
According to informed sources at the Thai Foreign Ministry, his UNGA address will focus on the international rule of law and respect for territorial integrity, principles that are particularly relevant to ongoing border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia.
Anutin will also highlight the urgent need for landmine clearance along the Thai-Cambodian border and call for stronger international cooperation to combat cross-border online scam operations, the sources said.
Thailand’s track record in public health, climate action, humanitarian assistance, UN peacekeeping operations and women’s rights will also feature in his address.
The prime minister is also expected to highlight governance reforms at home as part of Thailand’s efforts to play a more active role in shaping international rules and norms, and address other global issues, including the governance of artificial intelligence, global disarmament, and international peace and security.
During his stay in the US, Anutin will meet American investors and business representatives to discuss economic cooperation, investment and technology, including AI, digital infrastructure and digital skills development, with a view to attracting investment to Thailand.
The final leg of the trip will take Anutin to London, where he is scheduled to meet institutional investors, together with representatives of Thailand’s capital market, to present Thailand’s economic outlook and investment opportunities.
He is also scheduled to meet leading British businesses, including Virgin Atlantic and Rolls-Royce, to promote business and investment opportunities between the two countries.
The government has described the three-country trip as an opportunity to present Thailand’s economic potential, capital market and digital economy to international investors and seek greater cooperation in trade, investment and technology.
