The prime minister will visit three southernmost provinces tomorrow for the first time since taking office in September last year.
Starting in Narathiwat, her visit comes after a series of violent incidents in the region, the most recent of which claimed the lives of Pol Lt Colonel Suwit Chuaytewarit, 56, a school principal, and his son, Pol Sgt Dome Chuaytewarit, 35, who had been on their way to purchase equipment to build chicken coops for the school.
They were traveling along a road in the Si Sakhon district of Narathiwat on Tuesday when their vehicle was struck by an IED, after which assailants executed them.
Government House spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub said that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will attend a debt relief fair at Princess of Naradhiwas University in Narathiwat in the morning. She will also receive a briefing on the progress of southern border development projects, including a parallel bridge over the Golok River, connecting Sungai Kolok district in Narathiwat and the dual-track railway project linking Hat Yai in Songkhla to Sungai Kolok.
She will then visit Muang district in Yala, followed by Pattani, where she will meet with fishery entrepreneurs before returning to Bangkok.
