Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra had a good night’s sleep on the first night of his one year in Klong Prem Central Prison and appeared to have adjusted to the prison environment, according to a prison’s report.
He is cooperative with prison officials, could eat as normal and has not made any special requests, said the report, adding that, after a medical checkup, his overall health appears good.
The former prime minister is being kept under watch in a quarantine facility inside the prison for five days, as required by the prison’s rules, to ensure that he is free of COVID-19. After this, he will join other inmates in a standard prison cell.
Thaksin was sent to prison yesterday to serve a one-year sentence, after the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions ruled that its sentence had not been enforced by the Corrections Department, following his six-month stay at the Police General Hospital on false claims of life-threatening illnesses.
