Paetongtarn Shinawatra visited her father, former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, in prison today and shared a family photo, giving her followers their first glimpse of him since his imprisonment on corruption charges in September.
She described the nearly two-hour visit as feeling “like being together as a family again.”
In the photo, Thaksin is seen with a short haircut and wearing a bright blue inmate uniform.
The Instagram post featured photos of Thaksin with Paetongtarn, her husband Pitak Suksawas, her brother Panthongtae Shinawatra and his wife Nattiya Puangkam, and her sister Pinthongta Kunakornwong Shinawatra.
The prison organized a special program allowing close relatives to meet inmates without the usual glass partitions. Families were able to hug and share meals.
Paetongtarn said she even had the opportunity to stroll through a small market inside the facility, where prisoners sell handmade food and crafts. She said she took the chance to support several of the stalls.
“For a moment, it felt like I was a little girl again, holding my father’s hand and walking through the market with him and my siblings, just like when I was a child,” she wrote.
“Dad loves walking through markets, choosing ingredients for Sunday meals at home. To everyone who is concerned, he is well and aware of the love and care sent his way, and he sends his best regards to everyone.”
