Pheu Thai de facto leader Thaksin Shinawatra has lashed out at the coalition government parties in his daughter, PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s administration, for not attending a cabinet meeting to review international tax measures, saying they should tender their resignations.
Thaksin referred to the December 11 cabinet meeting, during which he noted that some cabinet members from coalition parties were absent, claiming they were unwell.
“That clearly shows they are not with us. If they do not want to stay with the government, they should inform us. We will understand. If they run away again next time, they should submit resignation letters,” Thaksin said.
Thaksin expressed his disdain for those who act covertly, stating that he is a direct person.
“If they want to stay, they should fight together. It is the government’s policy, and they should support it. Once they have cabinet seats, they cannot simply run away,” he said.
Thaksin did not name the parties directly, but it was reported that the absent members included Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, and Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, leader of the United Thai Nation Party.
On stage, Thaksin described himself as having no political position, joking that he is merely an “assistant to an MP” and an old man receiving a Bt600 monthly state pension.
Thaksin was speaking at a Pheu Thai seminar hosted by Paetongtarn Shinawatra and the party’s MPs in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan, last night.
