Wasting no time, a new Cabinet under Anutin Charnvirakul’s premiership is already taking shape, with all the portfolios to be shared among the Bhumjaithai party and its allies.
An informed source in Bhumjaithai said the party will get 12 Cabinet seats, including interior, finance, transport, and energy, with five to be reserved for outsiders, among them the governor of the Bank of Thailand, Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, and former energy minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow.
However, the media reported that Sethaput said the time to serve in the position is too short, considering the People’s Party’s condition for supporting Anutin as prime minister, which requires him to dissolve the House within four months of delivering the policy statement in parliament.
It is reported that veteran diplomat Sihasak Phuangketkeow is tipped to be foreign minister.
The Kla Tham party of Thammanat Prompao is expected to be get seven Cabinet seats, including agriculture, education and social development and human security.
The Palang Pracharath party is expected to be allocated four seats, including public health and defence, while the rebel faction of the United Thai Nation party, led by Suchart Chomklin, will get industry and natural resources and environment.
The new Cabinet will, however, be short-lived, because of the People's Party conditions.
