The Emergency Flood Situation Forward Command Centre in Hat Yai will propose to the Cabinet, at its meeting next week, a waiver of water and electricity charges for November, December and January for households in Hat Yai which have been heavily affected by the devastating floods last week.
Government Spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat said today that power and tap water supplies, which were disrupted during the flooding, have been completely restored, adding that the command centre has instructed the Provincial Electricity Authority and the Provincial Waterworks Authority to delay the issuance of the utilities bills to the flooded households, pending a decision by the Cabinet on the centre’s proposal.
Meanwhile, Ratchada Dhnadirek, spokesperson for the command centre, said the government has transferred about 1.088 billion baht in compensation into the bank accounts of 120,949 households in nine flooded southern provinces in the past two days.
2,878 households are yet to receive the compensation, of 9,000 baht each, because they have not yet downloaded the ‘Prompt Pay’ app to their cellphones.
The Department of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation will, however, transfer the compensation into the bank accounts of 46,976 households in Pattani, Songkhla, Surat Thani and Yala provinces by today.
