A 4.7 magnitude earthquake shook a town in Myanmar’s Shan state at 11.30pm last night and strong tremors were felt in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai and some districts of Chiang Mai, according to the Earthquake Surveillance Division of the Meteorological Department.
The epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 7km, about 42km to the northeast of Mae Sai district, the division reported.
The quake was followed by a second jolt, measured at 3.5 magnitude, at 1.03am. Its epicentre was at a depth of 10km and located about 187km to the northeast of Mae Sariang district of Mae Hong Son.
Officials concerned are now conducting a survey to find out if there has been any property damage caused by the quakes.
