A moderate to strong cold front from China is forecast to cover northern Thailand in the next 24 hours, signalling the belated arrival of this year’s cool season, the Meteorological Department reported today.
Temperatures are expected to drop 1-2oC tomorrow morning, while the southern region will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Minimum temperatures in Bangkok and surrounding provinces are forecast to be 24-26oC, with highs of 32-34oC.
In northern provinces, there will be a drop to 18-22oC and maximum temperatures will range from 31-34oC. Minimum temperatures in the north-eastern region are forecast to be 18-22oC and maximum temperatures will be 30-32oC.
In the central region, minimum temperatures will be 21-23oC, with highs between 32oC and 34oC.
In the north-eastern province of Loei, temperatures at the three mountain top tourist destinations, namely Phu Kradueng, Phu Rua and Phu Luang, have fallen to 13-14oC. Tourists have been flocking there to camp, especially at weekends or over long holidays, to see the sea of mist in the morning and to feel the cold.
