Buddhists were flocking to Sanam Luang today to pay their respects of a tooth relic of the Lord Buddha, on loan from China.
The relic will be in Thailand until February 14th, as a goodwill gesture from China to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 72nd birthday of His Majesty the King on July 2 this year.
Lotus flowers are available at the pavilion, built at Sanam Luang, for Buddhists to use when paying their respects to the relic, which is placed in a chedi, specially built for this occasion.
There is also an exhibition celebrating the King’s birthday.
Sermons are given every day from 10am to noon and at 4pm.There will also be a religious ceremony, held from late night on December 31 until early morning, to mark the arrival of the New Year, followed by the offering of alms to monks.
