People living on both sides of the Tha Dee Canal in Mueang district of Nakhon Si Thammarat are being advised by the Department of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to move their valuables to higher ground and to evacuate any vulnerable relatives to safer places, due to the threat of flooding posed by the steadily rising water level in the canal.
Rain run-offs from the Khao Luang mountain range are gushing down into several streams that flow into the canal.
Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast today and tomorrow in the province, due to a strengthening north-eastern monsoon which is blanketing the southern region and the Gulf of Thailand. Rainfall in the last 24 hours was measured at 94.5mm in Lan Saka district and it is still falling.
The Tha Dee Canal in the Mueang district is projected to overflow and flood low-lying areas in the municipal area by 4am tomorrow.
A yellow flag and a sign board have been erected at a bridge spanning the canal, advising people to monitor the water situation and to brace for overflows.
