The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has decided not to appeal verdicts, acquitting former leaders of the now defunct People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) of multiple charges, including inciting public unrest, illegal assembly, illegal detention and coercion, to the Supreme Court.
The cases date back to 2008, when the political pressure group, led by Sondhi Limthongkul, Somsak Kosaisuk, Phiphop Thongchai and Suriyasai Katasila, staged street protests against the government of then Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej.
The Criminal Court found all of them not guilty of the charges, verdicts which were upheld by the Appeals Court. According to Section 220 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the case cannot be appealed to the Supreme Court unless the OAG deems it necessary for finalisation.
OAG spokesman Prayut Bejraguna said yesterday that the OAG concurs with the acquittals by the two lower courts and has decided not to appeal.
