Seventeen executives and core members of the iCon Group were ordered detained last night, after the Criminal Court rejected the bail applications for three of them on the grounds that they may try to interfere with evidence or flee and because their alleged offences are serious and have widespread impacts.
Former TV host Kan Kantathavorn, former Pheu Thai member Yuranunt Pamornmontri and Peechaya Wattanamontree were the only ones who had applied for bail.
The male suspects were sent to Bangkok Remand Prison, while the females were sent to the Central Women’s Correctional Institution for a further 12 days, pending more questioning by police from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).
The court approved the extensions of their detention, after which police can seek court approval for additional detention if required by the investigation.
iCon Group CEO Waratphol Waratvorakul, has not had his detention extended yet, because police are still questioning him. He will, however, be taken to court tomorrow to have his detention extended.
All 18 suspects have initially been charged with defrauding the public and violations of computer-related crime laws.
Meanwhile, it is reported that CIB officers have confiscated 23 luxury cars and wristwatches belonging to the executives, which are estimated to have cost over 100 million baht.
The cars include a Rolls-Royce, a Ferrari, a McLaren, a Porsche, a Bentley and a Mercedes Maybach.
