Typhoon Fengshen, the 24th of this year, is forecast to make landfall in Vietnam between Thursday and Saturday and will bring moderate rain to Thailand’s northeastern region and heavy rain to Chanthaburi and Trat provinces, as well as the west coast of southern region.
Chawalit Chanthararat, CEO of Team Consulting Engineering and Management, says typhoon Fengshen caused heavy rainfall in the southern Philippines on Sunday and has moved into the South China Sea today. It is steadily gaining strength as it heads southwest.
Hainan Island is forecast to be hit by heavy rains on Wednesday, as the typhoon heads for Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department warned today of heavy rainfall in southern provinces and rough conditions in the Gulf and the Andaman Sea, while northern and northeastern regions will see less rain in the next 24 hours.
Typhoon Fengshen will weaken quickly after it hits Vietnam, due to the influence of colder weather from China. The storm will not hit Thailand directly, said the department.
