A man captured on CCTV falling from an 18-story building in Poipet, a border city in Cambodia, has been identified as a resident of Kanchanaburi province in Thailand.
Police believe the building, from which the 41-year-old man fell to his death, serves as the headquarters of an online scam network, said Pol Lt General Trairong Phiwpan, commander of the Thai Economic Crime Suppression Division.
Trairong was responding to viral CCTV footage, captured by a camera mounted on a neighbouring building, which was initially published on the popular ‘Drama Addict’ Facebook page.
Trairong says that he has confirmed the information with the provincial police chief in Sa Kaeo province, which borders Poipet.
A review of police records has revealed that the building from which the man fell has previously been linked to scammers and has long been used as an operations centre for illegal activities, according to Trairong.
In the past, Thai police have arrested members of a human smuggling ring, who were attempting to traffic Thai nationals to Cambodia to work in the same building.
