The Mental Health Department has dispatched assessment and treatment teams to Chiang Rai province, to support people affected by the ongoing flooding and its aftermath.
Information collected by the Mental Health Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team (MCATT) on September 11 and 12, from 3,081 people in 15 shelters, as well as those remaining in their homes, showed no signs of depression or thoughts of self-harm.
It was found, however, that 402 people are at risk of developing mental health issues, while 217 others are experiencing medium to high levels of stress.
Chiang Rai suffered the most casualties and damage, among the northern provinces hit by the flooding, with ten killed, 133 injured and more than 24,000 households affected.
The most-hard hit districts are Mae Sai, Mae Chan, Mueang and Mae Fah Luang.
The Rajanagarindra Institute of Child Development, at Suangprung Psychiatric Hospital in Chiang Mai, has been assigned to lead the MCATT teams.
Those who still have internet access, and wish to receive preliminary treatment online, can add the Line ID: @psyjaibot, because physically access to many areas of Chiang Rai remains difficult.
