The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has launched an investigation into an elderly and psychiatric care facility in Tha Muang district in Kanchanaburi province, following allegations of physical abuse and unlawful confinement raised on a popular television program.
CIB officers conducted an inspection of the facility yesterday, after a former resident alleged on the news talk show ‘Hone Krasae’ that she was held at the centre against her will for over two years after being placed there by her son and daughter-in-law.
Images released by the CIB show disturbing living conditions, including rooms and sleeping quarters fitted with iron cages and padlocked from the outside.
The exterior perimeter of the complex was also secured with multiple rows of barbed wire and reinforced steel framing.
Inside the facility, several elderly patients were found lying on beds enclosed by metal cage structures bolted directly to the bed frames.
Authorities stated that investigators are gathering evidence and interviewing staff and residents to determine whether criminal charges, including unlawful detention and ill-treatment, will be pressed, assuring that legal action will proceed swiftly if violations are confirmed.
