Floodwaters in the Rom Klao Housing Estate in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district have begun to recede after four high-capacity ‘Naga’ water pumps were installed yesterday, local authorities reported today.
The water level at the main entrance has dropped by 20 to 30 centimetres since the pumps' deployment on Friday, but deeper surface depressions within the estate remain under significant inundation.
The four pumps are running at full capacity to push water out of the estate into the Nueng Canal, which then feeds into the Prawet Buri Rom Canal.
Officials plan to install an additional four pumps.
A resident in Zone 11 said floodwaters that previously reached chest height, around 130 to 140 centimetres, have receded to below the knees, measuring about 40 to 50 centimetres.
Despite the progress, residents remain anxious about rehabilitation costs and lost income after being flooded for over a week.
Many local shopkeepers reported severe damage to merchandise and equipment, leaving them unable to resume business.
Locals are also closely monitoring weather forecasts predicting more rainfall on October 5th.
While residents express confidence that the expanded pump array can handle direct the forecast rainfall, they remain concerned about runoff flowing from surrounding higher ground into the low-lying estate.
