The Ministry of Commerce has reported that the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and the latter’s allies has boosted Thailand’s canned tuna exports to the Middle East this year.
Mr. Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, Director of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) under the ministry’s Department of Foreign Trade, said that Thai canned tuna exports to the Middle East has increased by 20.73% during the first nine months of 2024, reaching 65.98 billion baht.
Mr. Poonpong pointed out that the conflict in the Middle East, triggered by Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza on October 7, 2023, has boosted food demand in the region, including canned tuna produce from Thailand.
According to the TPSO chief, recovering economic conditions in Thailand’s major trading partners, including the United States, Europe and Australia, have propelled the steady growth of the country’s canned tuna exports.
Besides, consumers’ behaviors on more convenient lifestyles and healthier food-conscious consumption have also been beneficial to the country’s canned tuna exports.
The TPSO chief said that Thailand has also become a world major exporter of pet feeds, including those produced from imported tuna, signifying the Kingdom’s role in supply chains of tuna in the world market.
