A new department in the Civil Court, exclusively to handle online trade and e-commerce cases, was formally opened today to receive complaints from members of the public.

Shopping online has become a significant part of the new normal lifestyle in Thailand, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years, when many people, especially in the cities, have relied on online shopping and delivery services, instead of venturing out and risking exposure to the disease.

Several delivery services have also emerged, making this business highly competitive and providing jobs for motorcyclists. Small and medium-sized retail outlets also jumped onto the bandwagon.

In parallel, fraud by retail outlets has also increased, with a growing number of complaints from shoppers about substandard or incorrect goods being sent to them.
