Thailand’s Chanthaburi-Trat Task Force is demanding that Cambodia dismantles structures it has installed in Thai territory, including trenches dug in Trat province, or face more stringent measures.
Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachiayaphan, deputy spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy, said today that Cambodian forces have encroached into three areas of Ban Chamrak, in Trat’s Muang district, and dug trenches, while their civilians have settled illegally and are engaged in farming in the areas.
He insists that the three areas are located in Thai territory, according to MOU43, adding that the Chanthaburi-Trat Task Force had lodged several protests with Cambodia and the issue was raised at the recent meeting of the Regional Border Committee in Cambodia’s Pailin province.
He said that the task force has, however, driven Cambodian settlers back into Cambodia, but their houses and the trenches remain.
