The Burapha Task Force announced today that its troops have destroyed two buildings in the Cambodian border town of Poipet, which were allegedly used to house scammers and store munitions.
The first building was the ‘international centre’, in which newly-arrived scammers from various countries assembled and were screened, before being sent to work in various scam centres in Poipet. The building was located about 2km from the permanent border checkpoint in Ban Nong Ian of Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province.
The second building was located opposite Wang Mon Temple, in Tha Kham sub-district of Aranyaprathet district. It was allegedly used as a centre for the arrangement of “mule” bank accounts.
The Burapha Task Force claims that no Cambodian civilians were killed or wounded in the attacks.
Meanwhile, one Thai soldier was killed and two others were injured when a mortar round, fired by Cambodian forces, struck a checkpoint in Ban Nong Chan of Sa Kaeo province. About ten soldiers, from the Second Infantry Battalion of the Third Royal Guards Regiment, were on duty at the checkpoint at the time.
The fallen soldier has been identified as Pvt. Thanaphat Nanthawong.
