Members of a Thai nationalist group have been rallying in front of a hotel in Chanthaburi province since this morning, to protest against the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting between Thailand and Cambodia.
The group claims that the holding of the meeting is tantamount to recognition of MOU 43, which will strip Thailand of the right to terminate the document, which is reported to have been registered with the United Nations as a treaty by the previous Abhisit Vejjajiva administration.
The Thai delegation attending the JBC meeting today is led by Prasart Prasasvinitchai, former Thai ambassador to Cambodia, and is comprised of representatives from the Thai military, the National Security Council and the Survey Department.
The Cambodian delegation is led by the minister of the Office of the State Secretary-General and senior Cambodian officials.
About 100 police officers have been deployed to maintain peace and order at the venue.
The protesters are carrying Thai national flags and placards opposing MOU 43.
