The Thai army has condemned Cambodia for firing BM-21 rockets into residential areas in Khok Sung district of the eastern province of Sa Kaeo yesterday, injuring seven civilians and one police officer.
One of the injured civilians, a 71-year-old man, sustained a severe shrapnel wound to his back, while a 55-year-old woman suffered deep cuts and a fractured right foot. All of the injured were taken to Khok Sung District Hospital.
Army spokesman Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree said the indiscriminate rocket attack on civilian targets in Thailand spoke volumes about Cambodia’s disregard for the safety of the civilian population.
He added that several houses in Khok Sung district were destroyed in the attack.
Meanwhile, the Thai Marine Task Force said it had found two lions and three bears locked in cages at a seized Cambodian casino in Ban Tha Sen, in Muang district of Trat province.
Navy spokesman Rear Adm Parach Rattanachaipan said the five animals were starving and not being properly cared for. He added that the navy had contacted the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to request veterinarians to care for the animals and relocate them to appropriate facilities.
According to reports, the three bears will be taken to a wildlife breeding station in Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri, while the two lions will be sent to a breeding station in Ratchaburi province.
